PADI Tec 40 Course Options
The PADI Tec 40 course teaches to plan and execute decompression dives to a maximum depth of 40 meters, with up to 15 minutes deco or 10 minutes accelerated deco. You will dive a fully technical scuba configuration of either double backmount or sidemount cylinders, plus one cylinder with up to 50% nitrox for decompression.
This introductory decompression course allows the use of a single primary cylinder paired with a large pony bottle, or a large single cylinder with a dual-outlet valve. However, these configurations can be clumsy. Adding an optional, though highly recommended, dedicated decompression cylinder makes the rig even more unwieldy.
Ideally, you should learn decompression diving on a fully configured technical scuba system, such as back-mounted twin cylinders or a sidemount setup. These configurations make carrying a decompression cylinder much more manageable.
You should hold a certification in - or enroll concurrently in - PADI Sidemount or PADI Tec Basics (backmount), in order gain experience with these technical configurations before layering on the skills for decompression diving. PADI Tec 40 Course
This is the first PADI course involving decompression diving using open-circuit scuba equipment, where you'll learn to dive beyond no-decompression limits. This includes performing staged decompression stops during ascent to reduce nitrogen loading to within acceptable levels.
While the knowledge development requires dedication and mastering the technical dive skills can be challenging, the reward of extended bottom times at 40 meters is entirely worth the effort.

Please Note:
Although
you'll receive rigorous specialized training and follow strict
safety protocols during technical diver courses, decompression
diving incurs more inherent risk than recreational diving.
Therefore, securing personal dive insurance is essential before
any technical diving.
PADI Sidemount Combination
Although an experienced diver may adapt well to using a twinset during the Tec 40 course, I recommend obtaining a PADI Tec Basics certification first for a more progressive approach. Alternatively, you could complete your PADI Tec 40 course using sidemount.
