TDI Advanced Nitrox Options
The TDI Advanced Nitrox course teaches you how to use rich nitrox blends on a dive, including up to 100% pure oxygen. However, depending on your previous certifications and diving experience, there are a number of options as to how you dive during this technical course.
The equipment configuration that you dive with during the Advanced Nitrox course may include single cylinder backmount, backmounted doubles (twinset), single or double cylinder sidemount. Knowledge development and skills remain the same for all diving styles.
TDI Advanced Nitrox Course
If not already certified or taking a course to dive on backmounted doubles or sidemount, then your main diving configuration would be using a single backmounted cylinder.
Ideally, this would be using a wing and backplate system that had a tech style harness, with multiple d-ring attachment points to mount and carry a 2nd cylinder containing the rich nitrox blend or oxygen. Normal recreational BCDs aren't so suitable for carrying an extra tank and, as you're doing TDI Advanced Nitrox which is a technical diving course, you should probably get used to diving in equipment that's more tech orientated.

- Oxygen analyzer calibration & use
- Nitrox/O2 cylinder setup & labeling
- Detailed dive planning
- Calculate & log CNS loading
- Computer usage for nitrox/O2
- Predive checks / procedures (START)
- Entries & exits in configuration used
- Hovering & refining buoyancy / trim
- Valve shutdown procedures/drills
- Out of gas / gas sharing procedures
- Good buoyancy & trim throughout
- Buddy/team awareness & communication

no-decompression / no-stop dives. Additional training is
required for actual decompression diving.

Advanced Nitrox On Twinset
Divers who already have a certification or are taking a course to use backmount doubles, such as TDI Intro To Tech or PADI Tec Basics, can use a twinset configuration during their Advanced Nitrox course.
A TDI Decompression Procedures certification / course (or equivalent), where backmounted doubles were / are being used, would also suffice. In fact, taking the Advanced Nitrox in combination with a TDI Decompression Procedures course is probably the best way to get both certifications while saving a little time and money.
Advanced Nitrox On Sidemount
Divers who already have a certification or are taking a course to use sidemounted cylinders, such as SDI / TDI Sidemount or a PADI Rec / Tec Sidemount specialty, can use a sidemount configuration (single or double cylinders) during their Advanced Nitrox course.
In my experience, taking the TDI Advanced Nitrox course on sidemount or while on a course to learn sidemount diving is the way to go. And doing it on sidemount, in combination with a TDI Decompression Procedures course, is even better!
